NOWHERE.. Even HOME.

Interactive Audio-Visual Installation
Medrar for Contemporary Art, Cairo (EG), 2025.

We always see the city from the perspective of those who pass by it daily, but have you seen the city through the walls of your house? Did you feel the harshness and noise of the city as you lay in bed? Have you ever felt deprived of privacy and surrounded by the bracelets that suffocate you while you practice your simplest daily habits at home? Have you tried to contact the outside world and those around you, and been prevented from doing so?

The cruelty of the city surrounded me for two years while I was staying in one of the houses and captivated me until I lost hope of escaping from it to another place. But these circumstances inspired me to search for the keys to survival (air – light – communication – privacy) so that I could perform my daily tasks and live my life normally.

Whoever does not have these keys becomes empty inside, not aware of the meaning of salvation.

Through the audio-visual installation, “Nowhere.. Even HOME,” I try to create the situation that I went through while living in this house, uncomfortable, stressful, and drained, and I was always looking for any way out of it.

Process

The photo of the window is the result of a workshop with Helena Abdel Nasser during the open studio, injecting ink into a bioplastic sheet of glycerin.
During the production process, I attempted to create the map using laser-cut wood, but that experiment did not succeed. As a result, I decided to turn it into a sensorial experiment, but it is still not completed.

This project was developed during the open studio “This is Not A Landscape,” a Project by Ismail Fayed and Azza Ezzat, and showcased in a final exhibition at Medrar for Contemporary Art, Cairo (EG), 2025

Special thanks to the open studio contributors and Amr Ali
